Mandatory Needs:
Your apparel depends on your needs. During the winter months, use your best judgment. Practice-wear during the cooler weather could include a hoodie, a shirt, maybe some compression leggings, or sweat pants. During the warmer weather apparel could include shorts, and a shirt or jersey.
As for footwear, you will need mid to high-top cleats, to protect your ankles. Molded cleats are great for football practice. Bring along a good pair of tennis shoes for conditioning. For practices with 4LO, please avoid spikes.
Your mouthpiece is absolutely necessary to protect your teeth. Teeth are important so we'll do what we can to protect them.
Lineman gloves are optional for practices. If you wear them during games, you do want to practice with them ahead of time, to make sure they feel natural during game time. Use your best judgment on those.
Coach Sam recommends mid- to high-top molded cleats. Find a pair that's healthy for your feet. No cut-off circulation, or pointy toe-box. Find something comfortable, and well-made. No spikes please.
Coach Sam recommends Big 5 Sporting Goods or Dick's Sporting Goods. Both of these places have high quality products, and often offer sales, so you can get a deal on your gear.
Football is a contact sport, so there is a level of inherent risk in the sport. This is why players are asked to bring a mouthpiece. Materials aside, as an athlete with 4LO, you will learn to use your intuition to know when and how to use your athletic power, and how to maintain your health and safety during the game.
Trainings, sessions, and camps are focused on training the body and mind for athletic performance in a competitive context. Coach Brown's approach to technical training teaches body awareness, competitive perseverance, sportsmanship, and technical brilliance. To accomplish this goal, practices move through the following sequences:
Warm Up Stretch
Agility (Ladders, Bags, Hurdles, Footwork)
Water Break
Position Specific Individual Trainings | Offensive and Defensive Line*
*May include footwork, stance, hand-placement, striking, running, pulling, double-team, etc.
Defensive Exercises: Flipping Hips, Slap, Rip & Swipe, etc.
Running & Blocking drills
Competition skills | Pass Pro, Pass Rush, 1v1, or Race
These skills may be rounded out with additional conditioning exercises. If training in a private context some of these exercises may be emphasized or removed from the schedule altogether! Ultimately, training is for helping the body to be prepared for being a powerful competitor on the field.
